Evaluation of an electro-mechanical model of vented water tree inception in polyethylene insulation
Paper in proceeding, 2023

Water treeing is one of the main causes of the degradation of the insulation of high voltage submarine polymeric cables. According to the existing concepts, the appearance and development of water trees in the insulation are due to electrically induced local mechanical damages and/or chemical deterioration. In the present work, the electro-mechanical model is implemented for the setup providing strongly inhomogeneous electric field. The
results of the performed parametric studies are presented and the influences of the amplitude of the test voltage, its frequency and temperature on mechanical stresses in the material are discussed.
