Controllable impulse PD diagnostic method - a new step into testing insulation system performance
Paper in proceeding, 2024

This work introduces a novel test technique designed to provide an insight on how different steep voltage waveshapes influence the PD characteristics of insulation system defects. The used voltage waveform is designed to resemble an oscillating impulse function and it is demonstrated that the technique provides a fingerprint of PD behavior in defected insulation system with respect to the voltage flank magnitude. The technique allows identifying different kinds of insulation defects. The method also establishes already during testing typical PD parameters, like voltage magnitudes at which PD activity starts and ends. This indicates a possibility for using the technique in continuous monitoring of insulation degradation and within AI based diagnostic approaches.
