Development of a Dual-Circularly-Polarized W-Band Receiver Front End
Paper in proceeding, 2025

We report on the development of an ultra-low loss dual-circularly-polarized receiver frond end operating in the W-band. The design aims at applications for high throughput satellite telecommunication payloads. This integrated front end consists of an orthomode transducer, low noise amplifiers and output filters. A novel approach to machine the sensitive parts in a single piece mitigated losses and signal imbalance due to split blocks. The resulting demonstrator exhibits a high sensitivity, with a 3 dB average noise figure and resulting cross-polarization suppression in excess of 20 dB and channel gain of over 25 dB over the targeted frequency range of 81–86 GHz.
