Heng Zhu
Heng Zhu is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, specializing in fluid-structure interaction analysis applied to wind-assisted ship propulsion. His innovative research focuses on the utilization of crescent-shaped wingsails and is supervised by Professors Hua-Dong Yao and Jonas Ringsberg. This work, expected to conclude in December 2024, not only advances academic understanding but also addresses real-world industry challenges, as demonstrated by his collaborations with leading maritime companies such as ScandiNAOS AB and Stena Rederi AB. Heng's academic journey began at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where he earned a degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. During his undergraduate studies, he showcased his talent for applying complex engineering principles to optimize ship lines, enhancing their seakeeping and resistance performance. He continued his education at Chalmers University, earning a Master of Science in the same field. His master's thesis, which explored the performance of wind-powered ships under extreme conditions using computational fluid dynamics, laid the foundational theories for his doctoral research. Heng has contributed to 7 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals and international conferences. His scholarly achievements are further underscored by several scholarships, awards, and funds, highlighting both his academic excellence and potential impact on naval architecture and ocean engineering.
