Campus MaaS - Ett verktyg för förändring?

Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) – i.e. a service that relies on sharing, on integrating public and private mobility solutions while providing access to all solutions through a common interface – is proposed as a way to support the desired change from less to more sustainable travel. Pilot projects have shown positive results but there is, as yet, limited empirical evidence. The research project will investigate and assess the potential of MaaS as a tool in the desired transition. The project will contribute to closing existing knowledge gaps re (i) preconditions for the implementation of MaaS and (ii) the impact of MaaS on people’s travel behaviour and choice of mode of transport. This will be made possible by the unique opportunity to follow the development and implementation of a service targeting the business travels of employees at Chalmers Campus Johanneberg by taking part in project meetings and through interviews with actors involved. The impact on travel behaviour and the choice of modes of transport will rely on travel surveys combined with data on service use gathered through the service and complementary interviews with users. By bringing together competences from Design & Human Factors (IMS) and Physical Resource Theory (SEE) in planning the studies as well as analysing their outcome, a more holistic understanding and assessment of the role MaaS in transitioning the mobility system will be achieved. The insights gained in the project will benefit (i) the research society adding to existing knowledge on MaaS, (ii) user companies/ organisations (including Chalmers) to reach their climate and travel strategies, as well as (iii) service developers in decisions on MaaS development and implementation strategies. The results will also provide support for decision makers.
