Adaptiv och nätverksnivå trafiksignalkontroll för hållbar trafikledning (ANTSC)
Forskningsprojekt, 2024
– 2025
Optimizing signal control at intersections with a sustainability focus presents a promising avenue for enhancing traffic efficiency and reducing emissions in urban transport systems, particularly in large cities. Existing studies predominantly target signal control optimization at individual intersections, often neglecting the broader implications for network-wide travel efficiency. This oversight underscores the critical need for a shift towards network-level control that effectively leverages data from intelligent roadside sensors and communication to forge sustainable traffic management solutions.
This project aims to spearhead interdisciplinary innovations in sustainable traffic signal control optimization. It proposes network-level admission and adaptive signal control, preserving the benefits of individual signal control such as distributed architecture, independence from prior knowledge of demand arrival rates, and analytically verifiable network performance. Additionally, this proposal will employ simulation and evaluation methods to assess the impact of the proposed network-level signal control strategies on traffic efficiency and emissions. Expected outcomes include a reduction in traffic congestion and emissions at the network level, thereby facilitating the evolution towards a more sustainable, efficient, and equitable transportation system in the cities of Western Sweden. Moreover, this initiative will enhance collaborative efforts within Chalmers University of Technology and serve as a foundation for fostering interdisciplinary partnerships with external entities, setting the stage for future national and EU projects.
