Pioneering next-generation wireless networks with enhanced semantic communication and sensing
Current wireless networks face significant limitations in integrating sensing capabilities seamlessly. This gap prevents the deployment of advanced applications in many domains, including smart transportation, traffic monitoring and digital twinning. The EU-funded 6G-DISAC project will turn the integrated sensing and communication vision into reality, by adopting a holistic perspective that includes the tracking of large numbers of connected users and/or passive objects, going well beyond the usual restrictive standalone or localised scenarios. The project promises tangible communication improvements relying on a widely distributed intelligent infrastructure compatible with both real-world integration constraints and the flexibility requirements of future wireless networks, and also leveraging learning-based semantic reasoning. Partnering with industry leaders and academic institutions, 6G-DISAC will define innovative architectures and develop new methods and protocols.
