Spridning av elastiska vågor i anisotropa material
Forskningsprojekt, 2018 – 2022

The propagation and scattering of waves in elastic materials, in particular ultrasound, find important applications in nondestructive testing, material characterization, medical ultrasound, etc. Analytical approaches to such problems are of utmost importance rendering solutions to benchmark problems. In this regard very little is done for anisotropic media. As most composites and the grains in a metal are anisotropic, there are very good reasons to investigate also scattering in anisotropic media. The main purpose of the project is to extend the possible type of analytical solutions by solving the canonical problem of scattering of elastic waves by an anisotropic (transversely isotropic and orthotropic) sphere. This can serve as a benchmark solution to validate different numerical solutions. For long wavelengths (relative the sphere) it should be possible to obtain a solution in closed form. Moreover, the solutions for the sphere should be used to calculate effective material properties, in particular the attenuation, in particulate composites and grainy materials (metals). Also the noise generation in particulate composites and grainy materials should be investigated.
