Sustainable aviation fuels for a carbon constrained world
Forskningsprojekt, 2019
– 2021
The project define pathways to large scale use of sustainable aviation fuels. Several pathways compete today, such as biofuels, use of cryogenic methane and hydrogen as well as electrification. The project will comparatively evaluate sustainable fuel pathways and give recommendations of ways forward under scenarios
driven by availability of oil and biomass, increasing cost for CO 2 emissions, cost and performance of hydrogen and battery based solutions. The key scientific strength of the project is that it combines state-of-the-art technical knowledge on radical aircraft conceptual designs such as electric aircraft and cryogenic hydrogen aircraft with top-level global energy system modelling.
