Maria Grahn forskar inom området energisystemanalys med fokus på drivmedel, modellering av globala energisystem, kostnadseffektiv användning av biomassa, global uppvärmning och minskade koldioxidutsläpp. Maria forskar även på Electrofuels (bränslen som produceras från koldioxid och vatten med hjälp av el), framtida bränslen för sjöfarten och den globala bilparken.
