Sustainable Mobility Rural and Urban Transport (SMaRT)

The public’s awareness, attitude and knowledge of sustainable transport solutions are central topics for the Danish-Swedish project SMaRT. The project will increase sustainable means of transport for travellers, commuters and residents by influencing their travel behaviour - initially.

The project SMaRT is in line with the programme’s focus area — Transport - and aims to develop, improve and facilitate access to environmentally friendly transport systems. Smart will examine the public’s awareness of sustainable solutions at the beginning and end of the project. The aim is that knowledge about sustainable transport solutions increases 10 percent and that another 10 percent of the population in Denmark and Sweden consider sustainable transport solutions.

Raising awareness and knowledge about sustainable mobility: The project will examine issues that fall under the concept of sustainable mobility, including public awareness, attitude and knowledge of sustainable transport solutions. The areas that the project will explore are:

- Alternative options for more sustainable travel. Motivation to travel more sustainably.
- Awareness and easy access to sustainable means of transport. 
- Sustainable business models for transport solutions.
- Public confidence in the available sustainable transport options.

In order to get more people to choose sustainable transport alternatives, the project uses the co-creation method, where solutions are developed together with the target group. With the co-creation method, the target group is therefore integrated throughout the process - from problem analysis to evaluation of implemented actions. Thorough knowledge of the co-creation method across national borders is therefore paramount to the project. Through a previous Interreg project, Hjørring Municipality has developed the method and is ready to guide and train other partners in the process. Strong cross-border partnership: Several of the project’s partners have experience with interreg projects.

The partnership has worked with local transport, tourism and the method used in this project, the co-creation method. Smart, based on various studies, will provide forecasts for the development of low-carbon means of transport during a broad implementation. Focusing on the cost, the project will also provide the guidance that provides the most value for each invested crown.
