Comparison of MoM Soler for Analysing Wire Coupling
Paper i proceeding, 2025

Accurate electromagnetic scattering and radiation analysis of wires is an important capability for tasks such as antenna design, antenna placement and electromagnetic compatibility studies. This paper compares analysis methods based on the method of moments (MoM), for the full-wave analysis of wire structures. Three solvers are considered: (i) the exactkernel thin-wire MoM; (ii) a recently developed wire macro basis function (MBF) MoM; and (iii) the Rao-Wilton-Glisson (RWG) basis MoM for general surfaces in three dimensions. The latter provides for reference results. The other two are aimed at reducing computational cost through being specialised to wire structures. Presented scattering and radiation analysis results, demonstrate the necessity of incorporating sufficient generality in wire current flow modelling, to compute scattering, crosscoupling and impedance accurately.
