Biomass production and conversion in sustainably managed landscapes
Research Project, 2019 –

Biorefineries that produce bioenergy and high quality protein-feed from grass, clover and legumes have been identified as an interesting possibility for agriculture to increase overall biomass production and at the same time reducing environmental impacts, e.g. by decreased nutrient leaching and pesticide use. Test pilots for agricultural biorefineries are starting up in Denmark and possibly also in Västra Götaland in 2019. We will develop a framework for environmental analysis of the overall system of grass-based biorefineries and test this under varying biophysical and economic conditions in different agricultural landscapes. The research will be done in close collaboration with researchers at Aarhus University and results discussed with relevant stakeholders. Funding goes to Göran Berndes and Christel Cederberg.
