Marvin Schobel

Marvin's PhD project focuses on the characterization of corrosion mechanisms, the identification of corrosion products, and the determination of corrosion rates for materials that are important for safety assessment and for which there is a lack of existing data under repository-relevant conditions. The aim is to obtain new data on corrosion and hydrogen formation rates for primarily metallic thorium and aluminum alloys under deep repository conditions. The results are expected to aid in evaluating repository safety and in deciding the need for conditioning materials prior to disposal.
