Energy Science and Technology Research Programme (EnerPro) in Mozambique
Forskningsprojekt, 2014

The program proposal focus in the field of Energy, which falls largely under the main theme of the sustainable use of natural resources and it comprises 10 thematic research projects in areas of particular relevance to the development of Mozambique. The treatise of specific projects include: (i) woody biomass and agricultural wastes conversion (gasification and densification), mainly for off-grid electricity supply, (ii) optimization and energy efficiency in bakery ovens and improved stoves, (iii) cashew and coconut wastes conversion for energy purposes and production of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) and activated carbon, (iv) optimization of charcoal production, (v) conception of solar powered data acquisition and control devices for use in renewable energy systems, (vi) technologies for liquid biofuels, (vi) energy science studies and planning, which includes modelling and study of environmental impacts, and (vii) wind energy design and manufacturing technologies. Working in these areas of energy science and technology, EnerPro is developing international cooperation with several known institutions in Europe, Africa and pacific-rim countries. All of these cooperation assist in launching focused research projects, which, in turn, will provide tangible benefits to the researchers on understanding the research needs, and equipment availability and use at collaborating institutions for greater efficiency and effectiveness. All research topics under the EnerPro were carefully selected with mutual consent between the UEM academic staff members, students and host institution(s) in Sweden and other involved countries. EnerPro made special efforts to select research project topics that are of great national needs, available strengths at UEM, and human resources and facilities at the national and international collaborating team member’s host institution, with aim to address problems and approaches on energy science and technology.
