Säkerhetstestning av intelligenta uppkopplade fordon i mixade trafikmiljöer
Forskningsprojekt, 2020 – 2023

Intelligent connected vehicles (ICV) are expected to bring immense societal benefits to our future urban transport systems. For a safe introduction of such vehicles, a thorough safety assessment is required. At presents, methods for such assessment are not systematic. The most efficient assessment is, however, anticipated to be through a combination of simulation and open road testing. This is the focus of the purposed project that is a joint effort with a Chinese consortium. The project takes advantage of an advanced large-scale open test site in Shanghai to identify high-risk scenarios and develop risk assessment and mitigation methods. For these scenarios, the project will apply an iterative approach to design, demonstrate and assess the safety of ICV on open roads in mixed traffic. Testing ICV with vehicle manufacturers on open roads will lay the foundation for the safety assessment of such vehicles. The ultimate goal is to develop safety assessment methods that are applicable to a large-scale and contribute to accelerated deployment of ICV. With the test site as a partner, the project will also improve the infrastructure support for ICV, contributing to the UN goal on industry, innovation, and infrastructure. In addition, a safe introduction of ICV will lead to improved traffic safety, thus contributing to the UN goals on well-being, and sustainable cities and communities.

This project is sponsored by Swedish Innovation Agency, and the total budget is 8.4 million SEK. The project is in collaboration with Research Institute of Sweden, WSP AB and Alkit Communications.

The project starts on 1 Aug 2020 and will end on 1 Aug 2023 for 3 three years.
