The ester bond between glucuronoxylan and lignin has been observed in the form of α- and γ-esters [1,2], and there is a debate regarding the occurrence of these linkages in nature. Characterized CE15 enzymes are glucuronoyl esterases capable of cleaving lignin-xylan LCCs, and their activity have typically been characterized utilizing α-linked model substrates such as α-D-glucuronic acid benzyl ester.  Now we seek to systematically characterize a range of enzymes on the γ- ester…
