Fábio Faria-Oliveira joined the Division of Industrial Biotechnology in March 2016 as a postdoctoral researcher. His research is focused on wild and non-conventional yeast strains with high potential for application in the production of cellulosic biofuels, both ethanol and biodiesel. His current project is funded by Vinnova and Chalmers Area of Advance – Energy and focus on the microwave-assisted transesterification of lignocellulose-derived yeast oils for biofuel applications. His previous project was funded by Energimyndigheten (the Swedish Energy Agency) aiming to characterize a new yeast species as a glucose and xylose fermenting microorganism for the production of second generation bioethanol.
