Mistra REES (Resource-effective and efficient solutions) phase 2
Forskningsprojekt, 2019
– 2023
Resource-Efficient and Effective Solutions (REES) based on circular economy thinking is a way for Swedish manufacturing industries to take a sustainability leadership, improve competitiveness and reduce business risk. While REES 1 set the scene by exploring business models and product strategies, and policies for REES, the Mistra REES Phase 2 research program focuses on closing the “idea-implementation gap”. Mistra REES 2 gathers leading academic milieus, industrial companies and societal actors to co-create knowledge on design of products/services and business models as well as policy measures for resource-efficient and effective solutions and implement and test these in practice.
Based on results from Mistra REES Phase 1 and findings from other related research projects/programs, Phase 2 of the REES research program focuses on resource-efficient and effective solutions based on circular economy thinking, and sets out to accomplish the following Research Objectives (ROs):
RO1. Develop principles, methods and guidelines for how manufacturing companies can best be supported in their implementation of REES in order to close the idea-action gap and move from interest to action.
RO2. Develop principles, methods and guidelines about what changes in public policy and legislative measures are needed to enable and support the implementation of REES by companies.
RO3. Develop knowledge and methods for assessing the environmental and financial impacts of REES on the product, company and society levels and how to simulate and test different solutions; identifying policy mixes for specific sectors, but also a more generic policy mix;
RO4. Understand the interrelations, when providing REES, between product and service design, business models, and policies and explore opportunities for the effective interplay between them.
