This dissertation delves into the role of spatial design in Circular Building Design (CBD), particularly in the context of multi-residential buildings. Considering the building industry's substantial environmental impact, the research underscores the need for more sustainable building solutions. The study explores stakeholder perspectives and the physical manifestation of spatial design, with the kitchen serving as the focal point for the investigations. The findings reveal that spatial design contributes to circularity by keeping resources in use at their highest value and reducing resource flows resulting from spatial alterations. This is achieved by implementing functional and adaptable solutions in the spatial design of dwellings. However, the research also uncovers shortcomings in current spatial design solutions. These are primarily due to a segmented stakeholder network and the down-prioritisation of end-user preferences in multi-residential buildings. To address these issues, this thesis advocates incorporating adaptable standard design requirements into CBD approaches, ensuring functionality and ease of adaptation in the short- and long-term. Additionally, this thesis identifies the need for enhanced collaboration among stakeholders in the building industry and expanded evaluation and implementation of end-user preferences related to the design of their dwellings.
