Carla Fabiana Chiasserini

Carla Fabiana Chiasserini received her Laurea Degree (110/110 summa cum laude) in Electronic Engineering from the University of Florence in 1996, and her Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications from Politecnico di Torino in 2000. Since 2000, she has been with the Electronics and Telecommunications Department at Politecnico di Torino, where she is currently Full Professor. Before her current appointment, she worked at the Politecnico di Torino under a Cselt (now TELECOM ITALIA) grant on wireless ATM networks (1996), as an Assistant Professor (2000-2006), and as an Associate Professor (2006-2018). From 1998 till 2003, she did research work at the Center for Wireless Communications and at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, University of California at San Diego. In 2012 and 2016, she was a visiting professor at Monash University (Australia). She is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of ACM. Her teaching duties at Politecnico di Torino include graduate-level courses on wireless communications and advanced topics on wireless networks. From 2012 till 2018, she has been the Coordinator of the Master Program in Communications and Computer Engineering at Politecnico di Torino. From March 2018 till March 2024, she was the Rector’s Delegate for Alumni and Career Orientation. Project Activities and Coordination: She has participated in several National and European projects on wireless network systems, such as the RAMON, VICOM, PATTERN, NEWCOM++, NEWCOM#, MEADOW, VICSUM, FIGARO projects, and she has been the Principal Investigator for the MASP, TA_SL, IoT_|_ToI, and LIMPID national projects, as well as for a many EU projects such asthe H2020 5G-Crosshaul, H2020 5G-TRANSFORMER and H2020 I-REACT projects. She was the coordinator of the international QNRF GAD project (2012-2015) and of the international FLAG project and of the MIMOSE project. She has been Principal Investigator also for the contracts between Politecnico di Torino and ALCATEL, Telecom Italia, Magneti Marelli, and INLAB, and she is the Principal Investigator for the research contract with FCA and TIM. Organization and Editorial Responsibilities: She is Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier Computer Communications journal and she serves as Editor-at-Large of the ACM/IEEE Transactions on Networking. She is a member of the ACM MobiHoc Steering Committee. She has been involved in organizing several international conferences, among which IEEE INFOCOM (with the role of Area TPC Co-chair), IEEE/ACM MobiCom, ACM MobiHoc, and IEEE SECON. She was TPC chair of ACM MobiHoc 2009, several editions of ACM/IEEE MSWiM and IFIP WONS 2006. She was General Chair of the 2006 and 2007 editions of ACM/IEEE MSWiM, and of IEEE/IFIP WONS 2012. She was Panel Co-Chair of the ACM MobiHoc 2016 and Poster Co-chair of the ACM MobiCom 2016 Poster Session. Dr. Chiasserini has been Guest Editor for several special issues of international journals, such as IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine, Performance Evaluation and Computer Networks. She served as an Associate Editor for the following international journals: IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, Computer Communications (Elsevier), IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, and as Senior Editor of IEEE Communications Letters. She was a member of the Executive Editorial Committee for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications. In 2010, she received the Best Editor Award from the AD HOC NETWORKS journal Editorial Board.
