ERGODIC: Kombinerade person- och godstransporter i förortstrafik
Forskningsprojekt, 2023 – 2026

Living in suburban areas is highly dependent on private vehicles for commuting. Due to low demand density, conventional public transport and deliveries cannot provide a high level of service as they do in urban areas. The 15-minute urban concept in suburban areas is a real challenge. To this end, this project proposes and demonstrates a new system for integrated passenger and freight transport, consisting of flexible public transport with modular vehicles and last mile travel/delivery service with active micromobility. Modular vehicles can flexibly change the capacity by adapting the number of connected and segregated cabs that carry either passengers or goods. The proposed system is compatible with current infrastructure, technologically ready and has great potential to reduce the use of or even replace private vehicles with comparable services. In this project we focus on 1) business model development and demand matching of passengers and freight, 2) design and optimization of operational systems, 3) analysis of safety, social and sustainable effects and 4) proof of concept with field demonstration. The goal of this project is to develop a sustainable multimodal transport service for residents of suburban areas and realize the 15min city concept.
