Professor (N2) vid Produktutveckling

Sophie I. Hallstedt is a Full Professor at Chalmers University of Technology, at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Division of Product Development. Her research goal is to support companies in developing sustainable, value-creating lifecycle solutions that consider ecological, social, and economic aspects. Her work has resulted in the development of innovative methods, models, and decision support tools that enable product development teams to: assess the maturity level of sustainability implementation, assess and evaluate the sustainability impact of various solutions, and visualize progress in sustainability implementation. ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE • Professor of Sustainable Product Development at Chalmers University of Technology and responsible for research in Sustainable Product Development at the Division of Product Development. (Since 2023) • Established and developed the Sustainable Product Development research area at Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH). (2012-2023) • Recognized on the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) 100 List 2023 for the Digital Sustainability Implementation Package (DSIP), highlighting research with high innovation and societal impact potential. LEADERSHIP, PROJECT EXPERIENCE WITH INDUSTRIAL COLLABORATION • Principal Investigator and Project Leader in multiple research and innovation projects in Sustainable Product Development, including a Vinnova-funded FFI project, UDI projects, KK Foundation-funded Profile Project, and KK Foundation HÖG projects • Extensive experience in collaborative research with industry • Long-term collaboration with companies in aerospace, manufacturing, and product development sectors INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION • Elected Board Member of the Design Society and Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. Chair of the Design Society Special Interest Group on Sustainable Design. TEACHING AND SUPERVISION • Lecturer and supervisor in Mechanical Engineering programme • Examiner and Course Leader for the national PhD course in Sustainable Product Development. • Supervisor of nine PhD students until now.
