Silvia Hüttner

Researcher at Chalmers, Biology and Biological Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology

Silvia Hüttner joined the Division of Industrial Biotechnology in spring 2014. Her research is focused on the identification and characterization of enzymes that break bonds in plant cell walls. The aim is to facilitate the deconstruction of lignocellulosic materials for further use in biorefinery applications, like biofuel production or extraction of valuable compounds. In the Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC), Silvia investigates the application of enzymes in the extraction of wood polymers – lignin, cellulose and hemicelluloses - to produce new materials out of wood. Silvia is also collaborating with researchers at the Food Industries Research Institue (FIRI) in Hanoi to investigate the rich biodiversity of plant cell wall degrading fungi in Vietnam and their potential use in biorefinery processes.
