Burcak Ebin

Research Specialist at Energy and Material

Dr. Burçak Ebin's background in Metallurgy and Material Engineering, coupled with his extensive research in process development for recycling and material recovery from various waste streams. He is also an expert in nano- and micron-size powder production from primary and secondary sources. His current research focuses on;

(i) reclaiming electrolytes, and organics (binder, separator, etc) from spent batteries by supercritical fluid extraction,

(ii) waste management and valuable metal recovery from solar modules/cells and waste electronics (WEEE) by pyro- and hydrometallurgical methods,

(iii) characterization of municipal solid waste incinerator ashes, metal recovery from them, and ash stabilization,

(iv) metal recovery from industrial waste,

(v) thermodynamic modeling to understand the underlying chemical principles involved in material recycling and production, and optimizing processes.

The combination of his knowledge in process metallurgy, materials, and thermodynamic modeling enables the development of innovative and sustainable recycling solutions. His work addresses critical challenges related to waste management, resource sustainability, and the development of advanced materials. His research is instrumental in fostering sustainable and feasible recycling processes, which are essential for a more environmentally responsible and resource-efficient future.
