Lars Ulander
Lars Ulander is professor in radar remote sensing. His research is focused on radar, in particular signal and data processing for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) in different applications. His research has resulted in new radar systems and new knowledge about SAR and ground imaging in the VHF and UHF bands. He is one of the proposers for the BIOMASS satellite mission which is under development by the European Space Agency (ESA). The objective of BIOMASS is to produce yearly global maps of forest biomass. It will be the first SAR satellite operating in the UHF-band (432-438 MHz) with launch scheduled for 2024. He also leads the research with BorealScat which investigates how radar reflectivity from boreal forests is affected by weather and moisture parameters. BorealScat uses a tomographic radar installed on a 50-m high tower (read more at www.borealscat.se).
