Denis föddes 1974 I Akhangelsk, Ryssland. Han tog sin doktorsexamen i radiofysik på MSPU, Ryssland, 2003. Från år 2000-2003 var han pre-doc hos The Sub-millimeter Receiver Lab på Smitshonians astrofysiska observatorium. Sen 2003 har han varit en del av Avancerad mottagarutveckling (GARD) hos Institutionen för rymd- och geovetenskap.​
