Elin Esbjörner Winters

Docent vid Kemisk biologi

Elin Esbjörner är docent i kemisk biologi. Hennes forskargrupp studerar proteiners aggregationsmekanismer och amyloid-bildning i neurodegenerativa sjukdomar. Gruppen använder en kombination av in vitro tekniker, cellbiologi och avancerad fluorescensmikroskopi. Elins huvudsakliga forskningsfokus är att förstå hur proteinaggregat (sk. amyloid) interagerar med celler och cellmembran. Gruppen är särskilt intresserad av mekanismer för cellupptag och celltransport. Gruppen studerar även hur olika biologiska och farmakologiska ämnen kan påverka proteiners benägenhet att aggregera. Elin är också en av sex gruppledare i forskningscentret FoRmulaEx vars mål är att bidra med fundamental kunskap för design och utveckling av nästa generations effektiva nukleotid-baserade läkemedel. Inom samarbetar Elins grupp med kemister och fysiker för att utveckla och applicera metoder som gör det möjligt att förstå, på en molekylär och mekanistisk nivå, hur lipid-packade RNA-läkemedel tas upp i mänskliga celler.
