Nathalie Scheers' forskning fokuserar på upptag av metaller, speciellt järn, i magtarmkanalen. Hon arbetar främst med berikningsjärn i livsmedel/järntabletter och deras potentiella effekt på colon cancer. Hon arbetar i humana cellinjer för att kartlägga mekanismer för metallabsorption och dess reglering samt uttryck av tumörassocierade protein. Metaller spelar en mycket viktig roll i cellulära processer och brist eller överskott i intag av dessa kan leda till flera olika sjukdomar.
