Min forskning handlar främst om att förstå kopplingar mellan process, struktur och egenskaper hos avancerade högprestandamaterial på en grundläggande nivå. Detta kräver utveckling och användande av metoder för in-situ karaktärisering med hjälp at elektronmikroskop eller stora infrastrukturanläggningar (synkrotroner eller neutronkällor). Ett särskilt fokus ligger på användandet av tidsupplösta in-situ metoder baserade på spridning och diffraktion av synkrotronljus och neutroner för att studera beteendet under representativa termiska/mekaniska cykler, samt mätning av lokala egenskaper hos individuella faser, korn och gränsytor på en mikroskala. Målet är att bidra till utvecklingen av nya och förbättrade material, främst med avseende på temperaturstabilitet och mekaniska egenskaper, som kan möjliggöra minskad miljöpåverkan både under tillverkning och användning. För att åstadkomma det tillämpas den mer grundläggande forskningen i samarbetsprojekt med industrin.
