Som docent i beräkningsorienterad brottmekanik koncentrerar Martin Fagerström sin forskning på att utveckla realistiska och beräkningseffektiva modeller för att simulera brottprocesser i ingenjörsmaterial. I fokus är lättviktsmaterial relevanta för bearbetnings- och bilindustrin. Martin är också kompetensområdesledare på SAFER (Chalmers fordons- och trafiksäkerhetscentrum) för området "Structures and Materials", ansvarig för koordinering av material- och strukturrelaterade trafiksäkerhetsfrågor.
