Jan Stake
Jan Stake är professor i terahertzelektronik och avdelningschef för terahertz och millimetervågsteknik vid institutionen för mikroteknologi och nanovetenskap. Han tog sin civilingenjörsexamen i elektroteknik 1994 och disputerade vid Chalmers tekniska högskola 1999. Hans huvudsakliga forskningsintresse är att utforska grundläggande fenomen och aspekter i terahertzområdet (ca. 0.3-10 THz) och utveckla terahertzteknik för praktiska tillämpningar. Genom att mäta elektromagnetiska vågor i terahertzområdet så kan man detektera olika atomer och molekyler, vilket har varit en central metod för att lära oss om vårt universum och dess ursprung i decennier. Med fjärranalys från satelliter så används samma teknologi för att få bättre förståelse om jordens atmosfär och mekanismer som påverkar vårt klimat. Tidigare forskning i Stakes forskargrupp har resulterat i terahertzelektronik för rymdtillämpningar, tex för submillimetervåginstrumentet (SWI) ombord på Jupiter icy moons explorer (Juice) samt för MetOp-satelliterna. Hans nuvarande forskning syftar till att skapa effektiva och integrerade THz-komponenter för att möta framtida behov av instrumentering för rymdvetenskapliga tillämpningar men även för sensorer och trådlösa kommunikationstillämpningar. Jan undervisar i halvledarteknik och mikrovågsteknik. Han driver också en ”journal club” inom institutionens forskarskola, där forskare träffas varje vecka för att diskutera de senaste artiklarna inom mikrovågsteknik och terahertzteknik. Jan Stake var chefredaktör för IEEE Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology mellan 2016–2018 och är invald i styrelsen för internationella samfundet för Infrared, Millimeter and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz).
